As noted on the Brooks + Scarpa website this home seamlessly blends with the hillside merging the natural and the artificial in the most intriguing of ways. Luis Vasquez is the project’s engineer and he worked his magic with the architects to create a property that has won the AIA Los Angeles NextLA Award as well as the honor of being exhibited at the National Building Museum’s “Liquid Stone Exhibit” in Washington D.C.
Ready to roll with it? So are these amazing rolling huts! These wheel-clad dwellings were created to meet the need of accommodating visiting guests. They boast a low-tech design while still managing to be chic.
The house grabs attention with its interesting contrasts crisp lines and an emphasized breezy feeling. It was built by Belzberg Architects in 2012 and a year later — this year — it managed to grab the 2013 Ontario Association of Architects Design Excellence award. The images will speak for themselves …
The wheels of each rolling hut help to elevate the structure so guests can enjoy an optimal view… Ready for a glimpse at the interior? The modern design does not disappoint. In fact these dwellings were designed by Tom Kundig of Olson Kundig Architects. Note the warm wooden details and the earthy glow of each space:
The dwelling’s bathroom continues the wood and tile motif adding decadent elements such as his-and-hers sinks. Even though it’s in the middle of a silo this powder room features signature hotel room flourishes such as an abundance of plush washcloths and towels:
We begin with Tall Man’s Tiny House a home designed by brothers Adam and Aaron Leu (who are both 6′ 7″ tall–hence the name of the home)! What makes a house tiny? Generally the phrase “tiny house” refers to a dwelling that is less than 1000 square feet. And this compact home definitely qualifies…
Wood marble and limestone have been used for the interiors and with rich and refined décor that fits the existing setting perfectly the home has an aura that can be only described as ‘divine’. Lighting plays a pivotal role in creating the perfect ambient atmosphere.
