Below we see the finished product which features a smart load panel that uploads real-time data about the home’s energy consumption. Silo House consists of three cylinders–one for the bedroom one for the kitchen and one for the living room:
Designers of Seta House created a structure which is constantly connected with the world outside. An open plan means that the first floor sports a living room a dining space a kitchen that are all rolled into a cool ‘social area’.
Wood is the prime material for everything in the house. It looks old (salvaged) but extremely chic at the same time. In the large living room everything is cozy relaxed and sprinkled with some French touches. In the kitchen although small everything is well organized and has its place. Plenty of natural light fills the dining area adding character to the whole setup.
The interior of the home boasts features such as custom cabinets and pinewood flooring. In addition to the kitchen this 130 square-foot home includes a bathroom a living room and a loft (not included in the square footage). Side note: the walls of the home feature painted hardboard and the ceiling is crafted from maple plywood.
The home’s living room features bright walls and warm wooden accents as well as slatted seating. Low-wattage LED lighting is a priority. Shelving and surface-top space is anything but scarce as you can see:
Silo House was created by Cornell University for the Solar Decathlon competition hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy. The goal: “to design build and operate the most attractive effective and energy-efficient solar-powered house.”
